My pup made 9 months on Halloween and has been growing like a weed. He is a full WGSL. My other GSD is WGSL on the sire's side but I believe the dam is a mix of German and American. Their conformations are very different, but as my pup continues to grow, these are some things I have noticed. Even with his recent hip surgery and recovery, he moves almost like a horse? Picks up his front paws when he walks or trots, holds his head up high, chest out. Even has somewhat of a gait in his run. When he carries something in his mouth, his head is high, but his chin is down, like you would see in a dressage horse. Is this bred into the WGSL? I've never really noticed it in pics or videos, but it is very obvious when I watch my two playing together. Even with his recovery, and puppy quirkiness, he somehow still looks very graceful when he moves...sometimes
. So I guess I was just curious about that...

I'm not a showline owner or breeder but I've fostered a couple, and I've always noticed the "dressage" look you describe. They're very flashy movers and it's beautiful to watch.

Being bred with conformation closely in mind, its been my experience that the movement you describe is common.
Even carrying the sleeve my male likes to strut his stuff. ![]() 9 months is actually part of an awkward stage. Wait until his body balances out. He will get even prettier to watch

This is all very interesting to me. I'm excited even more now to see how he grows and develops. I guess I always thought this was a movement that was trained into show dogs and horses. Its kinda fascinating to see that its something bred naturally in the line.
