Default What to expect from these lines?

I have another breeding that I am seriously considering a pup from in the spring. I will not be able to meet the parents because of distance but have heard very good things about the breeder and his dogs.
What shoud; I expect from the breeding?

High trainability and lots of natural herding instinct....

Are you looking for a dog to herd with?

I would love to get into herding and hope to in the next few years.. I plan to be only working part time next year and having more time to spend with Benny and a new pup.

I have heard that herding lines are more likely to have the good nerves and genetic obedience. I do not want a dog that will be so driven to herd that unless it can work at herding every day can't settle. I want a dog that enjoys training and working with me, will be happy with long hikes, swimming, maybe treball and not be fear reactive.

I'd really like to meet Lenz, as I have thought he might be a really nice stud dog to breed with bring HGH bloodlines into my own dogs. But I'd like to see his prey/ball/hunt drive as those traits very useful in training for any sort of sport or work. I'm not sure that Lenz has ever played ball....

These dogs are bred to trot *miles* a day--I suspect they have a fairly high energy level and need to work--you'd have to ask the owner/breeder to get a idea on that.

If I lived in California, I'd probably be contacting von Sontausen for a nice dog who can be a good working (herding, too!) prospect and companion.

Thanks I will contact Julia at von Sontausen. She is only about 45 minutes away! I do feel better about having a breeder closer and being able to see the pups and parents!

Good luck on your puppy hunt! This is the fun part.

(OK, almost all of it is the fun part!)
