Default Newbie's question, pls help on the pedigrees

Hi all. I'm about to get a GDS puppy after few years dreaming of it, and I understand that I'm going to have a 4-legs friend for years to come. After doing my homework, I've been able to identify a local breeder who has studs imported from Germany. I have no intention for breeding, but I'd like to do some basic training on my own, guided by the books "Schutzhund: Theory and Training Methods" of Susan Barwig and "Advanced Schutzhund" of Ivan Balabanov. As a novice, I'd like to have yours guru opinion on the following litters, which I will only choose one male puppy.

The first litters from:
Sire: Eiko vom Herzbach Pedigree here
Dam: Fila vom Momax Pedigree here

And the second litter from:
Sire: Hobbit vom St-Michaels-Berg Pedigree here
Dam: Josi von der Friedrichskluft Pedigree here

Your input and comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do you plan on working, showing and/or titling your puppy?

These are show lines and while recognizing names I can't help you. Hopefully someone more familiar with these dogs will pipe in.

As mentioned on my previous post, I am with intention to give the puppy as much training as I could, believing that any GSD should be well-trained rather than become a nice looking pet only. For the time being, in my country (Vietnam), we don't have any SchH competition yet, thus it is just a pure hobby raising a great dog like GSD.

In concern to stud dogs' pedigree, I have seen a lot of SchH titles in its parents and its ancestor, so how come it be a show lines? Is it because the parents don't have SchH title before breeding then this its little no longer considered as a working line? Can I still be able to train a puppy or it simply does not have a guts?

Appreciated any comments.

Please disregard my previous post, I UNDERSTOOD that they are all show lines, and show dogs could be trained and titled SchH, but in no way a real working dog. Thanks

Correct that they are all German show lines. However people who claim to you they are "in no way a real working dog" are comparing these dogs to hardcore German working competition dogs. There's a big difference between someone training and obtaining working titles on a dog and someone who is competing to score highest in competition, just as t here's a huge difference between attaining AKC obedience titles CD, CDX, & UD and the more hardcore competitor who is competing for OTCh points and whose goal is to achieve the highest scores consistently.

Access to Schutzhund trraining clubs etc within reasonable driving distance is a common problem in the USA compared to Germany which has 30,000 or more Schutzhund training clubs.

A puppy out of either of the two litters you're considering should be able to do what you want to achieve with a dog.
The breeder of the two litters you're considering should be able to help you select individual puppies who show the most potential for Schutzhund competition. Basic characteristics to look for include a puppy who is energetic and curious and who pays attention to you when you try to get its attention. who shows willingness to play with you & interact with you.

Being a first-time Schutzhund trainier starting with a puppy isn't easy at all & you may want to consider getting an older already Schutzhund titled dog to learn with.

If you can find it, the book "Training the Competition Working Dog" by Tom Rose and Gary Patterson is a fantastic book that teaches you how to train a dog for Schutzhund, starting wiith ways to play with a puppy to shape that puppy's drrives.

Thanks a bunch GSDGenes! I would drive 100+ km everyday should we have any Schutzhund club exists where I live. That's why I have to venture on my own with very little resource for starting. And buying already titled dog to learn with is not an option either, 'cause they will be so much expensive importing from Germany. Again, thanks for your helpful input.
