Default opinions on pedigree

Below is a breeding that I am thinking about a pup from ( if I can convince DH to add an addition to our pack) Here is the dam and sire. I would love to know what people think of these lines, health and temperament wise.
I am looking for a dog that could be good in herding, agility and just an all around companion, not reactive, that loves to work with their human.

SG Tjuya Gidget vom Adelhertz - German Shepherd Dog

Hikita Vom Insel - German Shepherd Dog

Can't comment too much on pedigree, except to say that it's all working lines... the dogs are quite beautiful (gotta love black sable), though the sire looks like he could use a little weight.

HUH???? Did you look at the cross??? The parents are half siblings by blood - his sire and her dam are littermates! And to boot, there is then a tight inbreeding on an NZ dog and Magbert Blitzen Stein.

Mating test - German Shepherd Dog

I would venture to say that anyone who breeds these two dogs together has little to no understanding of breeding.

No - I would NOT buy a pup from this combo. And I would seriously suggest they find a different male for the female if I knew the owners.

I did notice a lot of linebreeding in this pedigree, though I don't know enough about lines and linebreeding to comment on that.

It's a good question to ask her. Seriously.

Maybe because Dorothy is a serious herding competitor and is trying to fix what she wants in a herding dog in her lines. but I would certainly ask her.

the hips on this litter are very high risk with that tight an inbreeding - esp on Magbert!!!!....and sorry, while one of these dogs may be doing AKC herding, it is not a pedigree with any dogs "known" for herding ability....

Go back to the iceberg breeders thread - these dogs are way too closely related and I stand behind my assessment of very very high risk

Hmmm. Interesting (especially considering another thread at the moment).

What is even more interesting is that a lot of those dogs in the pedigree are generally thought of to be prey-monkies. While prey drive to an extent is desirable in herding (I believe--don't do it), it seems like (from my limited knowledge) that this breeding very easily can bring out some absolutely insane prey drive to make it very undesirable.

Curious what others think on that front? (ie people that actually know what they are talking about lol) Seems like an odd choice for a herding person.

Possible--but that might not be a major concern based on the actual temperaments and trainability of the parents.

I would worry about hips, too. I think Lee's concerns are right on the money. Plus, that's some really intense and up-close breeding on Mara, who was the daughter of a dog with NZ hips. The dam is already linebred closely on Mara, and this breeding goes back to her again.

It's the type of breeding that is not uncommon among breeders for the conformation ring, but I wouldn't touch it, no matter how much I liked the individual parents.
