I'm slowly learning about different "lines" and those which may demonstrate certain characteristics (perhaps desired by some, but not desired by others). It's not easy to remember the names, especially if I have a hard time pronouncing them
.Can the experts give me some feedback regarding this pedigree? I'm especially interested in "genetic obedience" and any type of temperament generalizations. Please feel free to PM as well. Thanks for the guidance! |

I love to learn about bloodlines, too. I know what I like, but I don't know where all of it comes from.

You are a tease, Cliff! Nick -- drive, intensity, quicknessness, low thresholds Olex -- extremely popular dog to see in working pedigrees; I don't know too much, but I get the impression that he produced all the things you get from Nick + hardness and good looks/better conformation Gotthilf -- one of the big 3 Fero sons (in addition to Troll and Timmy). The combination of Nick over Yoschy (Nick/sons bred to Yoschy daughter/g-daughter) was hugely popular for producing intensity, quickness, drive, trainability, and aggression). I haven't heard too much about Gotthilf, just that he's popular with people who had Gotthilf children. I used to train with a woman who had a Sch3 Gotthilf daughter and she was a great, very strong bitch. Based on his motherlines (Ilja Schwarzen Zwinger and Norbo Marterstock), I'd say he brings in balanced prey/defense, hardness but high pack drive, high trainabilility, probably very good hunt/herding drive--and some of that genetic obedience. I don't know the bottom half of this pedigree as well, but Ernst goes back to Mink through Lewis. These lines are known for handler hardness, overall hardness, high prey drive and good grips. Not genetic obedience.... He also goes back to Karlo Peko Haus--who brings hardness and high fight drive. The motherline, I would think, brings in steady nerves and high prey. Esko seems like a really nice dog. Perhaps not the dog for high amounts of genetic obedience, however. (All GSDs show some levels of this--it's that thing that makes a herding breed--the inclination to do what you ask most of the time, at its most basic level.) |

BlackthornGSD, all I saw was a bunch of SchH3 titles! I can't believe you got all that out of the chart... I have a lot to learn!

Thanks Cliff and Christine.
From Cliff's post and the , I got the impression that this pedigree had a surplus of traits that make a very nice working GSD, but that "genetic obedience" wasn't one of those characteristics that was actively select for. Would that be a correct assumption? Thanks! |

Christine, I basically see it the exact same way as you described....really a nice working pedigree....maybe a little too much Fero/Mink for my taste, but I certainly wouldn't kick this puppy out of bed.(Fero/Mink often bring much drive and hardness....not especially genetic obedience.

Not to be creepy, but I was looking at your pictures of Vinca and Luka on FB the other day--Julia was bragging on your girl.
