I'm new to the GSD world, but my wife and I will hopefully be receiving a puppy around the end of June. The breeders seem to have a very strong desire to ensure that their dogs are well cared for and that they are going to good homes. As we have never dealt with purebred dogs before, I'm curious as to what your thoughts on a puppy from this mating are. I see a lot of SCHH3 titles which is very encouraging!

I'd be a little worried, honestly. The dad appears to be bred from German Show lines that have their fair share if SchH titles. The mom appears to be of pet lines that are unknown once you get a few generations back and haven't done much of anything. I'd be worried about the balance of such a mating, specifically nerve (or lack thereof) on the mom's side failing to cap the drive from the dad's side, resulting in a nervous and reactive dog.
Honestly, I'd be worried about anything on the mom's side. Nobody in her pedigree appears to have hip or elbow certifications or any kind of titles.

I have a stupid pedigree question - don't the puppies have to carry the kennel name of one of the parents? How is the owner of the sire able to use Von Arlett in the name when it's from several generations ago? They were using "of Assaracus", and then suddenly out of that dog and a Van Contra dog they get a name like Kapoosh Assaracus Von Arlett. Isn't that stealing someone else's kennel name? Ulk von Arlett is Kapoosh's great grand-sire, but there haven't been any von Arlett dogs in the generations since then.

THere are lots of good breedings out there with knowledgable breeders. I would not get a dog out of this litter (pretending for a minute I'm not working line girl
). You can do much, much better to get a dog who's genetics are stacked more in your favor.Unless there is missing information on pbd (which is always possible). I don't know show lines of any sort so I coudln't begin to tell you.

Hey guys!
Just a question for myself and possibly to help others. If you have 2 pet lines, no titles, no show, and NO intention of breeding whatsoever.. "can it not be nature vs nurture?" I have a pretty good understanding of what the titles mean and have tried my best to learn as much as I can from the board as far as reasoning, I stay on this board and read constantly to learn more information. (Also, I do understand the genetics and strong drive that is being bred for) The reason I guess I mainly ask is just a simple question relating to Rylee being my "backyardigan" as I call her.. She is superb with training, has a good drive... Just curious... I love this board!!!![]() You guys ROCK!!!!

That topic has been talking about a million times over on this forum. You can ALWAYS luck out getting a "good dog from a byb" (look for the thread).
You got lucky. Simple enough. Most times, unknown dogs thrown together for no other reason than they have 2 dogs does not mean you will get a nice, stable dog. Simples as that (and I'll completely remove working ability out of the euation). Reactive, fearful, bad nerves are some terms that come to mind.

The desire to work and the strong nerve to do it with has to be born into an animal -- you can't put it in with nurture, it is genetics. And just because a dog seems to have good temperament at home doesn't mean it can hold up when stressed by new locations and new people. That is why training and trialing breeding animals is so important -- it is not the end (title), it is the journey (training) that you learn about an animals strengths and weaknesses.

Temperment and Titles aside..... The mother has no health tests listed and neither does any of her "lines".
She was born 07/10/2008 and had a litter 04/14/2009. She wasn't even 1 year old yet. ![]() Yea these are GREAT breeders........ ![]() Oh and even better it was to her half brother......... ok so these are not the same people that bred her to her half brother but here is some info on her from their website; http://www.theperfectpuppy.net/Bama.html
