Cut his foot

My Gsd cut his foot today on a piece of glass. It was a very deep cut that took quite a few stitches to see it up. The vet told me to give him 75mg of benadryl twice a day to keep him tired and relaxed so he doesn't tear it open again I went to a pharmacy and told him about it and he said that was way to much for his weight he said to do 25mg twice a day. He's a year and a half old and weighs 88 pounds what should I do

Is the dog in pain? Or what is the benadryl suppose to help with?

My dog recently cut the meat in the webbing between the black pads with what I speculate to be glass too. It was a deep cut, got swollen for a few days and had pus, I still took her swimming, and she's recovering fine. She still runs like a nut and didn't really enjoy me touching it the first few days and now she doesn't mind anymore as it's healing ok on its own. The only thing I did is clean it and put iodine.

I am currently dealing with my boy who had surgery a week ago for a tumor on the side of his right hind foot (found out today that it was benign, YAY!) However, it's been heck to heal, because it is right on the side of his foot where the foot bends with every step. He weighs 58 lbs, and I am giving him 2 benedryl and 2 3mg melatonin tablets in the morning and at night, to keep him calm. He is a spinner, very high drive, and keeping him quiet on that foot is impossible otherwise. He broke it open yesterday, and I took him to the vet today, and she put 6 staples into it. So, yes, he needs the benedryl and melatonin for another 10 days before the staples can come out.

As far as the dosage on the benedryl, the vet told you correctly. You figure 25 mg per 25 lbs of weight. It won't hurt your dog, their system deals with benedryl differently than humans. You will be glad you have it to keep him quiet, otherwise he'll tear his cut open, especially as he starts to feel better. It can happen in seconds. And if you need it, a couple melatonin won't hurt.

The benadryl is just to keep him a little tired he's not into just laying around so I guess to help him sleep more so he doesn't tear it back open he also got stuff for pain and antibiotics for infections
