Default 1st Heat

My 9 month old is in her first heat. She has been not eating, somewhat lethargic, and acting like "just leave me alone". I have read this is normal?

We usually hike at least 5 miles a day and I have not stopped that because she is in heat. My friend was appalled that she still gets so much exercise and "I risk" it by letting her out. She is off leash but we hike up in the mountains where we rarely see anyone else (this time of year). Is this a stupid thing to do?

Just put a dog diaper on her. If a male intact dog happens to be nearby there's absolutely nothing you can do if he gets to her without possibly injuring one of them in the process.
