Is there a secret to brushing your dog's teeth?
I have gone through more toothbrushes, my girl tries to chew them while I brush and she breaks them. I can't get the inside of her teeth, and getting right to the back is almost hopeless. Is it just a case of they're good about it, or they're not? She doesn't hate having it done, just wants to chew the brush! ![]() This brush was the best for doing the best cleaning job, but also, because of it's design was the flimsiest. Bear is the same way, he just wants to gnaw on the toothbrush, but I have had better luck with the finger toothbrush. Somehow he knows my finger is in there and he's slightly better at it. Have you tried that?

We use a regular human soft bristled toothbrush. Much more apt to handle the chewing. We make our own toothpaste out of baking soda, salt and water. She must like the salty taste because she lets us put the brush in there and scrub away.

Since Joey had his last cleaning at the vet, along with getting his teeth sealed, we've tried to be diligent in brushing.
We can't get a toothbrush in his mouth; he wants to eat the toothpaste. The best we can do is: I put toothpaste on my index finger; use my thumb to rub it along the other fingers. I'll put my fingers in Joey's mouth and start rubbing the teeth. My husband holds him from the back because he squirms while this is going on. I do this three times, then give him an ice cube to "rinse" his mouth. Will know at his next visit whether this is successful.
