Hi All,
I am hoping you can help me with what I think is allergies. Razzle itches like crazy, both with his hind legs and nibbling with his teeth. I can't see any red irritated areas, so I'm assuming it's just dry skin? I can't find any fleas either. We've tried Benadryl and Zyrtec. The Benadryl did nothing. Zyrtec seemed to help a little, but he's still itching enough to make me feel bad for him. We've started giving him fish oil. We have 2 humidifiers in the house. We've also tried rubbing a special lotion and vitamin E oil on his skin. He's currently on Acana Pacifica dog food. We've also given him Acana Wild Prairie and still the itching persists. We aren't bathing him frequently....last one was probably a month or two ago after a mud incident ![]() He's 6 months old, so I'm not sure if it's just his reaction to the colder air...maybe it will subsist in Spring? What would you all reccommend as far as next steps go? At this point, do I try switching foods? Take him in for bloodwork? More supplements? Special shampoo? Wait it out until Spring? |

Sounds like allergies. You would prob have to find out if the allergies are food or environment related. With food, you could try switching foods and cutting out all treats to see how he reacts. Then, you can slowly introduce a treat one at a time to see if theres a treat/ingredient thats causing the reaction. If that doesn't work, you may have to take him to the vet to get an allergy screening. We took ours to our vet and then a dog dermatologist (didnt know they existed) and found out our dog is allergic to all specific kinds of trees and grass. She is on Atopica and children's Benadryl now. During the spring when its really bad, we give her Temaril-P just to get it under control. Its a steroid so we don't get that unless we have to. I hope yours is just food related because Atopica is pretty expensive. I'm sure others will have some other advice for you as well. Good luck
