Application Of Flea & Tick Control

I saw a commercial for Advantix II where they applied the flea & tick preparation between the dogs shoulder blades as usual, but recommended to apply a bit to the base of the tail and to the top of the head. Has anyone else heard of this manner of application?

Haven't heard of doing it on the head, but it's common for many to advise to distribute it at the base of neck, tail, and in some cases the middle of the back.
