I was looking through my dogs records yesterday and have a concern regarding my 22 month old female GSD Ellie. We give vaccinations at home and I can only find record of her first 3 puppy vaccinations (7way), no later booster! I want to think that surely we gave the booster and just somehow forgot to log it in but I just don't know.
I am very concerned with over vaccination so I no longer vaccinate my dogs every year. Should I go ahead and give her another vaccination now? Ellie is very healthy and fit and I know there are some who advise against any and all vaccinations (Leerburg for one) so I am on the fence here. I don't want to put my girl at risk for Parvo but I also don't want to put her at risk with unnecessary vaccinations. What to do??

Giving her a 7 way would worry me more than whether the last booster was given.
If you are very worried then have titers run...though that is usually costly. I don't hear of many dogs over 2 getting Parvo as long as they are healthy and have a strong immune system. If you are doing rescue, and subjecting your dog to others coming out of shelters then I would do a 3 way booster. |

Thanks Only"girl. I will not give another 7way but am going to really consider the 3way booster. I don't do formal rescue but I do pick up strays from time to time, though I am trying to stop bringing them home.
Rott-n-GSDs - That's what I'm hoping. I am going to go back through her records when I get home but I'm thinking we gave her 2 of the 7 way. She was given her first vaccination by the vet but I think it too was the 7way. Uhg, so many things to worry about. Always before we just vaccinated according to the schedule our vet set for us but I've learned too much to do this any longer.

We have had three dogs over the age of 5 come into the clinic with Parvo in the past few months. They were not vaccinated since a puppy and the owners thought they never needed another vaccination. All three dogs live in different areas of the valley. We have also had alot of young dogs come in with Parvo, mostly from not vaccinating at all.
Never know which way to go, vaccinate, not vaccinate ? |

Why not do a titers and ease your mind?
