Not sure what to do

Long story short. I rescued a GSD, he was 49lbs at almost 3 years old, 8months later he is now at 74lbs. He's still thin and lean but vet said this is perfect and his blood work and tests all came back good even when I got him and now again.

The issue is that he is a picky eater when it comes to kibble, I feed blue buffalo wilderness blend along with the same wet food mixed in. He has never eaten kibble just on its own since I got him. No idea what the previous owners were feeding him but given he was 20-30lbs under weight it was probably nothing. The expense of kibble and his canned wet food is pretty much the same as going raw. The past week I've started feeding little bits of raw so not to upset his stomach or give him the runs and he LOVES it. So I guess I need to make the transition. I need to do a lot more reading but one of my coworkers was telling me I can't feed both kibble and raw? I think I've read that on here as well. The thing is if I mix the kibble with the meat he eats everything, which is great. But if that is not good for him I won't be doing that. I know they digest at a different rate but will that cause problems? He eats twice a day but usually skips a meal every 3rd day or so. This has been a long road to actually get the weight on him and eating so things are progressing. The bits of meat I mix in right now have never had bone in as well.

I am transitioning my 12 year old dog to raw. I feed it mixed with kibble and there is no problem.

I have always feed raw meat mixed in with dry kibble. However having an EPI dog I am aware of the importance of digesting food, so after much research I discovered that by separating the raw and kibble it is much better for digestion, ie feed raw in the morning (can be BARF or chicken carcass, cow heart, whole rabbit etc) and then kibble at night, they say you should separate the feedings by 12 hours, however sometimes this is not possible and they may be feed 10 or 11 hours later. Now my 2 also don't like dry on its own so I always add water and let it sit for about 15 minutes to bring out the flavour and mix in a little bit of yoghurt or tinned sardines or tuna, or an egg yolk or a bit of goats milk and they eat it.

if your GSD is eating and eating and eating and losing weight - please consider testing for EPI.
