I'm trying to find sources to raw feed Ciyah, our new GSD puppy.
I need to find what I can in Dare or Curituck Counties, North Carolina. It seems the Groceries (Food Lion, Harris Teeter) here don't really do any butchering. Ciyah is 10 weeks old, for now I'm picking up pre-made frozen where I can, but can't afford to do that for long. Also, I'm assuming she's too young for Chicken wings at this point, are chicken backs OK? How about quarters if I remove the legs and wings?

While groceries dont' do their own butchering, they DO order from somebody! Call your local bars, restaurants, stores and ask where they order from IT will be a wholesale place. Do a google search for wholesale meat in your area. And look on Yahoo for a RAW feeder forum in your area.

Check out Yahoogroups
My puppy was eating chicken backs at 10 weeks, no problem.

at 10 weeks I was doing wings with my girl actually a half wing at each meal. Not sure how far you are but I'm in fayetteville (fort bragg to be exact) and have gotten some really great resources around here.

@Holmeshx2 - I'm near Kitty Hawk, on the beach, plenty of fish houses and seafood, just the grocers for red meats. So far, the kind of prepared RAW I'm finding is works out to about $6.00 a pound.
BTW: what seafood or fish other than salmon are suitable?

personally I'm really leery of feeding raw salmon because there are only certain waters you want to feed them from and I always forget which ones it is so for me it's safer just not to feed it raw.
They can have most fish for regular MM however salmon is high in omega 3's but so are sardines (I feed fresh frozen not the canned ones although canned in water should be ok) tilapia is fine I know of people that feed shrimp and scallops however if I have the money for shrimp and scallops it's going to me not the dog lol. No way in heck should you pay $6 lb for food I try not to pay over $1 lb for anything sometimes if I get something at a good price then I can pay extra for something else and it balances out. Do a search on yellowpages.com for meat wholesale around you and find wholesalers you will have to buy in bulk but it'll be MUCH cheaper. If you don't have one already get an additional freezer for your dogs food it saves a ton of money. I was paying over $120 a month in food with no luck on variety paid $50 for a used freezer on CL and then purchased over 80 lbs of meat for $20 has lasted a few months now plus when I do go to the regular store and find meat clearanced out I can stock up.
