I'm planning on switching over to feeding raw after Leo's next bag of kibble runs out, in about 5-6 weeks.
Where do you go about buying all of the meat? Just a local grocery store? I'll only be feeding 1 dog, so I won't need as much as others. I'm located in Michigan, and am constantly traveling between Detroit and Rochester Hills. Wondering where anyone that feeds raw in this area purchases their food from. Thanks, Mike |

If you can get down to the Eastern Market, I have heard that can be a very good place to pick up what is needed at cost. I believe Wolverine packing is down there. Otherwise Country Markets are good at ordering stuff for their customers and often you can find things like heart and kidney at Meijer's (at least we can in Adrian). You will just have to shop around and ask.

Where you buy depends on several factors:
1. How much can you afford to spend 2. Do you have freezer space to store large quantities 3. Do you plan to buy once a month, once a week or every couple days You will get the best prices when you buy in bulk - but then you need freezer space. It's most convenient to buy at a local store but then you pay more money. After trial and error you will find what works best for you.

I'm hoping to keep it under $75 a month, that's roughly what I spend right now between his kibble and additives such as small cooked pieces of chicken, beef or turkey (he's picky)
I have the freezer space for roughly a 2-3 week supply, and would consider buying a small freezer just for his meals. I'll check out the dollar store for all of that, and see what prices I can get on the rest at a local grocery store. I'm nervous to give him bone in chicken and other meats, as he's never had this before. But with all the success from others, I'm willing to make the jump and try it. |
