Default Another Green Tripe Question

I ordered a lot of this for next week. I have never fed green tripe except the stuff out of the can.

How much and how often do I feed the tripe? Also, is it considered a muscle meat like I always thought?

I give Miikka about a 1/2 cup every day. I buy a chub of the Excaliber and a chub of the plain and mix the two together. The Excaliber has bones in it but I also give Miikka turkey necks so I dont want her to get too much bone - that's why I mix the two up. I buy the tripe locally and they sell it in 2lb chubs.

Edit: now that I think about it, I probably give her closer to 3/4 cup not a 1/2 cup as I stated above.

I give it to Jinx as a MM. There are some meals it is her entire MM and some is just a portion. If she hasn't had some for like a week or so (traveling, store ran out whatever) then I will give her one complete meal of just tripe. I try to give around 5 ounces a day. Never an exact science but it's what has worked for us some days more some days less really depends on the over all meal and trying to keeps things portioned.

Okay so its okay to feed every other day then? Or maybe a small piece every day? Ive never tried this im really excited. Im even looking to upgrade my 5 cubic foot freezer to a 7 Cubic foot one for $100, who gets excited about freezer shopping? LOL

I know it smells bad, so maybe I will package it outside

no what I was scared to death listning to others talk about how horrid it smells and while its not roses to me it just smells like a horse barn not pleasant but not run for the hills toxic. I buy it in 2 pound chubs thaw it cut open the plastic wrap it comes in grab a chunk throw it in the bowl (after weighing) and keep the rest in the wrapper and place into a gallon freezer bag to go in the fridge and then do the same thing next day. Every other day should be fine or a few ounces every day (the way I do it) You'd be shocked 4-5 oz every day is great and its a decent size chunk. Granted the last day (generally get about 5-6 days out of a pack) its a bit more ripe opening the bag but not horrendous.

It smells terrible!! When I first started using it, it was hard not to gag when working with it. Now, I'm use to the smell and it doesn’t bother me at all.

Really, you can give as much or as little as you want. Like Holm said, tripe could be an entire meal OR you can give a tablespoon a day (there is someone on this board that only gives their dog a tablespoon of tripe per day – no more, no less).

If you can – get an upright freezer!

might be way off topic but at a tablespoon a day would it really give any nutritional benefits? IMO it would be like licking a vitamin C each morning lol.

An upright right now isnt financially doable. I will be paying $200 for a 7 Cubic foot new chest freezer but selling my 1 year old one for $100 (still under warrenty etc). So when I get more food I put that on the bottom and take the bottom up etc. Its a pain but right now I have a freezer. Now...if only I could convince my grandmother to let me take her upright

When I get my order in I weigh everything into 1.5 -2lbs servings and freeze. So I would add the tripe onto the scale like that.

I don't think so. I hope the person in question sees this thread. I remember she/he gave an explanation as to why only 1 tbsp per day - it made sense at the time but I can't remember what he/she said (something about it being spread out as opposed to getting it all at once. But I really can't remember).
