We just started BARF a couple of weeks ago. Benefits already--breath improved, energy increased, poops civilized, etc.
I'm giving Liesl ground beef, which she loves and devours, and turkey necks, which she leaves. I started with chicken quarters, and she ate a few but stopped. Then went to turkey necks, and she ate a few then stopped. I started putting out the turkey neck first, hoping to follow it with the beef, but she simply leaves the neck or buries it in the mulch bed (not acceptable because vermin will dig it up at night). It's not a teeth or chewing problem--if I put out beef soupbones she inhales the meat trimmings and then chews the cartilage and bones clean, and gnaws the bones for hours. But I understand these are too tough and she can't get enough bone calcium this way. Suggestions? I am considering 1. Putting out only chicken or turkey RMBs and taking them up if not eaten in 20 minutes, forcing her to eat one before she gets anything else. 2 Finding other source of RMBs so she can eat the bone--but what? Lamb is expensive! Should I use a calcium supplement and give up on the idea of her "consuming" the RMBs?

Do the former. When she gets hungry she will eat. Use the leg quarters, though, since they, at least, have meat on them. Turkey necks are very boney. Also, check her teeth/mouth on the slight chance that chewing the bones might be hurting her.

My boy does not like the slimy texture of raw. He will, however, eat anything turkey or chicken as long as it is frozen or semi frozen.

Thanks for the suggestions! Come to think of it, the few successes I had were with more frozen, less thawed necks, and she would have no part of slimy chicken livers. Maybe it is a texture thing.
