BLUF: Trying to determine if I should stick to my formula or adjust for his change in size.
I started off estimating 10% of his body weight and feeding that to him over two meals a day. I did that from he was about 8 weeks old and he is now 13 weeks old. I took him to the vet at 9 1/2 weeks and again at 12 1/2 weeks of age, and he went from 14 1/2 lbs to 28 1/2 lbs in just those three weeks. He still looks really long and slender to me, but the vet said he looks good and I should expect him to put on the same amount of weight by his next visit in three weeks. I’ve really been eyeballing his figure to determine if I am feeding him the correct portions or not, while trying to pay closer attention to his food variety and poop characteristics. I however would like to know a slightly better estimate for portioning out his rations as I can’t imagine feeding him at 10% of his weight until adulthood, and I forgot to ask the vet today. Thank you ahead of time for your comments. |

If I remember correctly, I think was getting 2 lbs. a day split into 2 meals at that age.
There are days when Odin will eat up to 4 lbs. a day and there are days he refuses his food. Thankfully, the food I get for him is in 2 lb. chub - it makes everything easy for me. ![]() You want to keep your puppy on the lean side, my husband keeps telling me Odin is too skinny, the Vet thinks he's just perfect- guess who's opinion matters?
