Default What breed is not your cup of tea?

After reading the poodle thread it's made me think. There are breeds of dogs I would never own for one reason or another, some I really don't have a reason they are simply not my cup of tea..

Labs are the first that come to mind. I can appreciate a working line Lab but labs in general are just so popular, they bore me. Same goes for Goldens.

Most hunting dogs in general. I'm not a fan of hounds either. So no Bassets, bloodhounds, or foxhounds...

Most little dogs are out. I do love chihuahuas, frenchies and a few littles but they are the exception to the rule.

What breeds will you never own and why if you have a reason?

Oh and no bulldogs of any type. Sorry, but, I just don't like them.

Uhg! reasons?

Well, I think that the GSD is pretty much perfection when it comes to a canine companion. It has enough coat, you don't have to cut on it, you don't have to cut on the dog -- crop or dock, you don't have to put a coat on it in the cold weather, and you don't have to shave it in the hot weather.

I don't like dogs that drool excessively, or are too small to do anything fun with.

I have been bitten once too often by poodles, that the breed just do anything for me, and I have known some nice ones, but not my cup of tea.

I don't want crazy high drive spazzes, and I don't want a dog that is going to suffer from heat stroke if you take it for a walk in 90 degree weather.

I am just not into the purse size.

I don't want to spend a paycheck a month at the groomers, nor a pay check a month at the vet.

Corded coats are not my cup of tea.

Hounds -- they just don't do it for me, I find them kind of blah.

Cattle dogs -- I've met some rather nasty ones.

Collies, I don't like their long skinny snouts and their coats, whether, smooth or rough.

Shelties yap, and would drive me through the roof in no time.

Huskies yap too.

Hyper dogs annoy me ... had a very well-bred black lab and just couldn't love him. Bothered me (still does) that I couldn't get past how much I was annoyed by him but he was obnoxious and lip-smacking 24/7. No more labs for me. I find I will only own a very few breeds (GSD, JRT, chihuahua, Leonberger, maybe a malamute). I love all animals but to co-exist with certain "traits" ... I know my limits.

Like selzer, it would be easier to name the ones I like. LOL

I will never own any terrier of any type. EVER.
I will never own any Nordic breeds of any type. EVER.
I will never own any hound of any type. EVER.
I will never own any toy breed of any type. EVER.
I will never own a designer MUTT. EVER.

No poodles, no presa canario, no dogos Argentino, no cane corsos, no akita, no chow. No shelties, no gorden setters, no irish setters, no spaniels.

I understand the thought behind Goldens and Labs being boring. However, I have a soft spot for Goldens as a Golden was the first dog I owned as an adult. And how do you not love their biddability? It's one of the reasons I love German Shepherds.

The dogs I would own...German Shepherds, Rotties, Dobermans, Great Danes, Bermese Mountain Dog, Australian Shepherds, Goldens, Labs, and good ole American mutts of one of the aforementioned breeds.

Basically, I value biddable, loyal, large dogs.

Now I say this as someone who currently owns a chow mix. Although I love him dearly and wouldn't trade him for the world, he did make me understand how much I value biddability. Heh. He's loyal...but not biddable by any stretch of the imagination.

Too many to list but the most annoying breed I have ever encountered in my life is a corgi. I thought they were cute until I met one. My neighbor has one and it is so obnoxious, absolutely dead last on my list.

Many...mainly pitbulls, rotties, chihuahua, dobermans, all the hounds especially blood hounds, great danes and most other dogs this size except for caucasian shepherds.
