We often talk about working on foundation skills and revisiting them periodically. What foundation skills have you worked lately?
I have done some one jump work to improve our jump wraps, and perch work to focus on hind-end awareness. Here's Tara showing off her new "advanced" perch work skill.

Nice! We are also working on perch work, but taking it to the flat. We've been working lineups- specifically in the 'side' position. Pimg's always preferred to turn counterclockwise, so getting her to turn clockwise into side position has been challenging. I don't have any current video, but she's been doing really well with it.

LOVE IT! You aren't talking and look how your pup is figuring it out!
I'm guessing all 4 feet on the perch is next!??

Here's what we have been working on. Note this was the first time I've asked Pimg to do this on a balance disk. Clearly it's pretty sloppy, so we will need to work on that. But- the important part is that she gets the game and is willing to move into side position.

The last 2 week's schedule has been:
morning - 3 minutes of "Achtung" starting with 5 seconds - gradually increasing duration to 20 seconds by the end of the session - Then a smalltrack is laid and breakfast is at the end of it. Afternoon - 5 minutes of Perch work. moving around in both directions Evening - 5 minutes of "fuss" on the way to the tennis court and then 5 minutes of "Legen" (casual down) and "Setz" sitting for duration of up to 30 seconds. Fetch is also included in this session. A few times a week, I will always go back to the basics and work on engagement for a few minutes and that really seems to be paying off. Foundation (to me) is looking at me and paying attention to me and nothing but me during our time. After we are done, it's time to let him be a dog. |
