Default More Energy After Agility?

Jazz has so much energy so I enrolled him in Agility because I just knew it would be perfect for him. He LOVES it and I love it which is fantastic! We introduced them to the A-frame last night and like every other obstacle, he approached it with enthusiasm and gusto, lol. I'm very proud of him. I thought though, that Agility was suppose to make him tired? When we get home after class, he's pumped up and acts like he's ready to run a marathon . Anyone else have a dog that gets more energetic after class? Upon talking to the other dog owners in class, only Jazz and one other dog seem more energetic after class and the rest are reportedly exhausted. I wish!!!

Just shows that you are in a great class and doing a wonderful job. Sounds like you are leaving with him wanting more more more and not burned out and fried!

Great job! Keep up with updates and you know photos/videos are welcome. It's great to take videos now in the beginning classes just to look back on in a few months to see how they've improved and progressed

I actually have to run Dax and train him for an hour just before agility class to get his energy down to a manageable level for the class, lol.

Pimg was the same way. But just wait... As you start asking for more and more from your dog, the energy required for them to process the course and your handling will wear them out fast. We were able to stop extra "pre-class wear out sessions" a few months into it.

Same here with Tara. I wouldn't say agility completely exhausts her now, but she's definitely more content to just chill out afterward.

Well that's good! I look forward to him being tired someday . It's truly addicting and so much fun!

Stosh was always wiped out after obedience class but was so wound up and excited after agility that all he wanted to do was play frisbee when we got home. But like Will said, the more difficult it gets mentally, like when you start running mini-courses he'll be tired when he gets home. He'll learn how to pace himself the longer the courses get

Same here when we first started. I had to take Mikko for a walk first, or let him play at the park where the classes were.
Now, it's so mentally challenging he doesn't need any "taking the edge" off first.

Sometimes after a long weekend trial, we get home exhuasted- with him running 5 runs a day- at the trial for 8+ hours- and he grabs a toy and runs around the yard when we get home! Though this may be a YAY we're home thing because after that he's out for the night

Couldn't agree more, and it brings up a great point. I've noticed LOTS (the majority?) are way slower on their 5th run of the day than their 1st or 2nd. You might not expect that given that the runs are less than 60secs long and spaced nearly 2 hours apart. But it is exhausting. (So it's uber important to crank the dog up with tugging prior to your next run...)
