I just got a rescue sheppard lab mix.
He is 6.5 years old and is a great dog.
Meeting hin first time he was very scared. After spending a little time kneeling and talking to him I took him for a walk. He responded immediatly to my commands. He does not bark at people or dogs from a distance.
Up close is another story.
I believe he may have been abused. He is ok with women quicker but still skittish.
I have had him for a week and he has never gotte. Aggressive with me except for a small growl once. So I left him alone. Otherwise he is very mellow. Lays in my bed, follows me through the house. Loves car rides and going to the park.
If I goto pet him and he does not see me coming I feel his skin tense up. He often looks guilty like he is in trouble.
I had some friends over and he immediatly warmed up to the women but snarled at the man.
After awhile he came up to male and he put his hand out palm down so he could smell and he nipped him a little bit. He was not mad as they have a rescue sheppard mix that was abused. Took him almost a year to get him adjusted. Their rescue never got aggressive just ran away or pees himself.
Any pointers?
Should I give him a chance or call it?
I am more concerned with him going after someone if he gets scared.
