These two just don't get along

So Harlie my two year old GSD had a little run in at doggie daycare this past week. She has always behaved very well socially at daycares, but apparently she has a bit of a beef with a single dog at this daycare.

She nipped at the dog in question this past week, though the daycare personnel admitted to not seeing what triggered the altercation. Both dogs are on a short term suspension before being reevaluated.

I understand not knowing the trigger presents a bit of a problem, but am eager to know if any others have similar experiences where your dog will have a poor reaction to a single other dog. Is there is a way to train against this, or are some dogs just never going to get along no matter what socialization training the receive?

Thanks in advance for any tips or informative stories!

Sometimes dogs just don't like each other. Since both dogs are on suspension, maybe you could contact the other dog's owner and discuss the situation to determine what could have happened and what can be done. If the doggy daycare is big enough, maybe they can be kept separate.

I'm, not a trainer, but have enough experience to confidently say, somtimes stuff like this is just going to happen.

Some dogs just have a strong desire to be dominant, ocatuonally, they will interact with another who has the same disires. Most the time these instincts could be curbed, sometimes they can't.

I think that their first intros are important. Robyn my female GSD generally likes all dogs, favors small dogs most of the time, but doesn't like one dog, another female GSD that is about the same age. The problem started in agility when the other dogs owner brought their dog over and she was right in Robyn's face, Robyn did not like that at all. After that Robyn didn't want to be near that dog and literally had a look of disgust when she seen her. I think that if the first intro was done right, butt sniffing and not in the face, Robyn would not have an issue wigh the other dog at all.

Even some people don't get along with each other.

They might have to be kept separate from now on.

I live with two dogs who will never get along. Sometimes it just happens. I keep them separate, crate and rotate, all the time. When Sabi was alive we had no problems, Bud just ignored Shadow for the most part. After Sabi died I thought they would gravitate to each other. The first time Bud got close to Shadow he attacked her. We have tried repeatedly since with the same response, although he never gets a chance to grab her any more, and Shadow is in no way dominant.

I would speak to the daycare and see if they have a plan in place for situations like yours, or if it's possible work with the other people and do alternating days. You can try re introducing them but they may never get along.
