Lee, I absolutely agree with you. I have no problem with a correction. In fact, I initially used an e-collar to stop Jax's reaction in it's tracks. However, LAT is not a quick glance and reward. It's counter conditioning. If a person is rewarding for a quick glance and reward without stopping the reaction first, whether it's a growl or full out lunging, and making sure the dog is in a calmer state of mind then you are doing it incorrectly. I imagine that it would backfire quickly for people who are not doing that and the dog then things he's being rewarded for the growl. Just like any other tool, if it's used incorrectly it doesn't work.
