I think I would look at it more as a foundational issue in my personal experiences. I have, and have had high drive working dogs that are "competition eaters". I've tried everything to try to slow them down but they just go nuts and wolf it down.
I've also hand fed, used a lot of food and treats in training and tracking, and I can bend down and take the bowl in the middle of the meal. I can also say aus while they are eating and they will spit out what's in their mouth.
I would say for the level of effort most people are going to put into their relationship with their dog, the guy is probably more right than he is wrong. Food aggression can be intense, and most do not have the bond and trust level with their dog that someone who works theirs daily is going to have. JMO
