Counter Conditioning video & question

Counter Conditioning

I really, really had negative results using Counter Conditioning with Woolf. His response was completely opposite of the dog shown in the video. His aggression would escalate to extreme levels at a distance and not settle. This occurred early in his training under direction of a different trainer then our current one.

Now that Woolf has successfully met dogs using BAT; would it be more like a step backwards using CC or just another tool to use? I am hesitant and questioning this because of earlier experience with it.

IMO, since you've used BAT now... it may work. I was mostly with this chick on the vid until the end. Why on earth would you put a dog like that with a dog with 'poor social skills' at that point?? Just to 'try it', or does she actually want to attempt to undo the work she just did???

Your dog may be way different than this dog. It may not work. You know your dog.

Yeah, the last bit of the video had raised eyebrows here to. I just knew the next scene would show the meet going down hill.

Some of what we are dealing with now in Woolf is over excitement. It is fantastic that he is now finally seeing that not all dogs are these scary things and is excited to see them, but then a switch is flipped and it slips into aggression - lightening fast. I'm looking at the control factor in CC using focus and obedience vs the relaxed style of BAT.

I guess just do it and move forward or go back to recover any ground lost if this still gets negative results.
