Unruly 2 year growler!

Need some advice tonight! My 2 yr old unaltered male is starting to turn into a complete jerk! This sweet creature is normally my best bud but in last few weeks has started growling at me when I pet him! The same dog who begged for a belly rub was not wanting one this evening at all (hence the growling). Also, no longer wants to sit next to me on the floor and when I call him to me just sits all tense with his ears down! He is normally not an alpha at all - we have a Dobie and Boston filling that spot so I am just stumped - not to mention the bearer of hurt feelings LOL!

He just looks so darn miserable and sad at me it still breaks my heart!

I would take him in for a check up.. make sure first there is nothing physically wrong..
