You're correct, it probably is fear.

My advice would be to find a good, qualified trainer to work with. Find someone who is experienced in working with dogs that have fear based reactivity. I would be willing to bet that if you were to share your general location, someone here would be able to recommend a good trainer.

Good luck!

That sounds just like Woolf and what he does. Locate a very good trainer. Don't jump at the first one who says they can 'fix' it. (learned that one by experience) Ask for and check references. I can't emphasize that one enough, you want to 'know' they have experience dealing with aggression issues, and preferably experience with GSDs. Also examine how you interact with the trainer. You have to be comfortable with the trainer and their philosophy as well.

If you can go up the User CP in the strip along the top, then go in and put your GENERAL location, you may get specific help with trainers classes. Your location will be on each and every post, like where my Bushkill to the left of this post.

Really be best to find some trainer(s) and have them evaluate you and your pup. The reason it's best to train and socialize from the day your pup hits the house at 7 weeks, it because it's so much easier than having to start later. But for those of us who get an older dog, or didn't realize we had an issue until the dog was older, it's NEVER to late to start fixing issues.
