Sounds like fear aggression.
Does he have many men in his life?
Does he lunge or just bark?
Is it possible to have them turn sideways and squat (not bend) down to reduce their threatening appearance? Of course, you'd only do this if you think it is safe. Make sure they don't try to pet him on the head, if at all. Just the chest and under the chin.

Try having the men turn their backs to the dog. In this case, Cesar Millan says it just right: No touch, no eye contact, no talk.

I understand, your friends want to pet and play with the dog but not now. All men ignore the dog completely until the dog shows definite signs of wanting to be friendly. Then proceed with caution.
