Freyja has always been a little pushy with dogs. Through training and socialization she's proved amazingly people friendly but is aloof with other dogs. If I ignore the dog she will do so as well. Yet if "We" meet a dog her first instinct is to initiate play, she'll yip, jump and wag her tail with her butt in the air, yet the second she starts to play her head will be placed over the shoulder, she will hit the dog with her chosen toy, and she will bodyslam the dog in the shoulders until it either crouches on the ground or roll over. This has caused me to back out of several doggy play-dates as I am afraid she will hurt the other dog. I am also afraid she will meet a dog that is also dominant and will harm her. She is definitely more assertive with females. Yet with males she will play until suddenly she decides she needs to be top dog, and she will bodyslam, hipcheck and snarly bite in the face until they back down. If I am within 10 feet she is an angel or if I shout "NO!", but out of that range then she is the school yard bully. Granted she has never reached a point of biting or fighting but I'm worried that it may escalate that far. I have come to the point where I am debating either cutting all new dog interactions to a complete stop or buying an e-collar. Any suggestions?
FYI: If the dog is under 20 lbs she will look confused as it snaps at her (and even bites her nose) but takes no aggressive action and will walk away and ignore it. Dogs 35lbs and above are her chosen victims.
