I ran a few errands with Alice today, and stopped by the park to run her a bit.
Well, we didn't stay long because a dog ran past her while she was in a down and she broke her position and bit him as he ran past causing him to yelp. This was a dog who just ran past her and is actually very well trained and well behaved. *sigh* she put two holes in his side...I pretty much knew it as soon as she struck him and he yelped. She caught him just right in the side. It didn't appear to be resource guarding more a reaction to the movement. But, trying to be the responsible owner I gave the other dog's owner my information. I was absolutely mortified...this is a new one. But, dogs are animals so I have to owe up to nothing being set in concrete as far as behavior goes. Fortunately...he's seen Alice alot (about a year or so at the park) so he understood that it was a freak occurance and he didn't act like his dog was made out of glass and seemed surprised that I was willing to give information and pay vet bill. So happy birthday to me...it's going to be an expensive one. I don't know if this is part rant, or something else. I'm definitely not justifying my dog's behavior; I put her up in the car immeadiately and we left. I'm disappointed in myself actually. |

I know it probably doesn't help much, but it's good to see there are still people who take responsibility and don't try and play the blame game. Hope your day gets better.

Thanks guys...actually my day got worse...
![]() I spent it with a tiny 6 mos old yorkie that was actively trying to dominate a 9 month old cairn terrier. Kinda funny in a wrong way...it's really hard to take Yorkie's seriously. Yorkie probably never set foot on the ground until four months old, and would not stop screaming when I left to change a mop bucket. And a very reactive puggle and two beagles who had no concept of humans going through doors first. But, I did have time to process today's events. The Chesie's owner threw his frisbee right at Alice where she was focused on me (ball in pocket) and his dog ran focused on the frisbee ran straight at her swerving at the last second. He did admit to "startling" my dog... ...*still doesn't make me feel better, but so far I haven't received and email or phone call. Of all the butthead dogs (besides my precious butthead of course) that have tried to pin her upon entering, knocked her off her feet while chasing a ball, barked continiously in her face, attempted to hump her...she has been very mild in her dog on dog corrections. So...I'm going to play the blame game and put it on myself for not paying attention to my environment. But, I definitely should have gone with my first gut instinct to just do a downtown training walk instead of the park....*smacks forehead* |
