Lacey has been playing fantastically with a 1 1/2 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback. But it seems once they both have settled down and he goes to chew on one of her bones(there are millions around) she gets really mad and barks once and lunges forward with ears pinned. She will NOT do this to any of my kids (5,3,and 1). It seems to be only with other dogs. Is there any reason for this? Or is this just her way of saying "you're in my house and this is my stuff?" And also, we have been looking to get another dog as a friend for her. If she doesnt like to share should we even discuss another dog any further, or should we just accept that she rather be alone if that's the case?

the other dog is very submissive towards her and will kind of look at you like "what did i do?" he is not aggressive at all, neither is Lacey. just seems to be possesive of her things. i guess we will have to put everything away for their play dates. thank you

I agree with the advice to pick up the bones and toys and control all access. That will certainly take care of the issue.
As far as the question of getting another dog...where are you at with training the dog you have? It looks like your current dog is still just a puppy. I would spend the next couple of years putting some solid training on her, and then start looking for a second dog. Then your girl will be an awesome role model for the new dog! Sheilah |
