Default stauba snapped on foster!

I wasnt there to witness it, but apparently stauba lost it on my foster this morning. Pat let all three out as usual, they did their business, then did the usual rough house playing. He said stauba ran up the stairs to go inside, and dakota and aschen kept playing. When dakota plays, he's very voical (lots of grrrs). He pinned aschen and aschen let out a little whine (patrick said it was def playful, nothing different that usual). All of a sudden, Stauba goes bailing down the stairs full speed, and tackles dakota, flipping him over and knocking him down (she is 53lbs, and dakota is 110lbs!!!). Then, she began jumping and nipping, with her hair raised, barking, growling, and bearing teeth. She never barks, EVER. Pat let out at loud "NEIN!" and she stopped instantly. They all ran up the stairs like they were friends. Pat told me that she was just plain terrifying. What was this? Did she think he hurt aschen? Her and aschen are incredibly close, i just dont know what made her snap like that, and its the only reason i can think of. They've all gotten along so well up until this point, and were fine right after.

I'm guessing pack mentality on this one. I would keep an eye on all of them from now on. It could be a one time thing or Stauba could be tired of the rough play.

I wouldn't call that losing it, sounds like a small scuffle.. It happens sometimes.

Possible she didn't realize it was her buddy crying and tried to take advantage of Dakota being weak. My bitches did that, if one stumbled or cried, it was game on. They were kept separate after a few times though.

I suggest you keep a very close eye on all interactions and keep them calm. Would suck if your foster left the house more messed up mentally than he came there because your dog attacked.

Just for future reference.. dogs scuffling and arguing can sounds and look rough, but they're just being bullies or seeing who's bigger and badder.
This is an example, I highly doubt either dog was hurt, but it sounds ugly doesn't it?

chucho does something like that,, when a dog growls he freaks! he thinks its a threat so he gets agressive..

Harley will go after Annie if she's barking at something for too long a time. He doesn't hurt her but he does slam into her full force usually sending her flying. It's almost like he's saying "Annie, knock it off!"

I don't think this is what you saw, but if you aren't familiar with preditory drift it's an interesting article and something to be aware of if you have small and large dogs.

he seems to be just fine. him and aschen have always played like that, so i'll try and keep the play away from stauba from now on, and have hubby let her outside separately from dakota, just in case.

I simply do not tolerate any of the behavior as described by the OP or as seen in the clip. There simply is no roughhousing, dominance, resources guarding or territorial aggression in my pack. I will not allow it.

Agreed with pretty much everything you said, but the roughhousing. GSD's are notorious roughhousers, so as long as i know it's 100% play, it's fine.

Everything else you said, i would not allow either. It's my job to decide who's top dog (which is always me) and never ever allow resource guarding like what's in the video.

That kind of stuff might be ok in the wild in wolf packs, but i definitely don't allow it in my house.
