Do dogs know when it's a competition?

This is one of my all time favorite videos. Probably because I've a husky and I know how silly they can be. It's a husky going nuts in an agility trial. Bare with the music and the beginning because through the middle, when the husky jumps all over the place, it's freaking hilarious!

I've never competed in anything with a dog so it made me wonder.

When you're competing for a title or length/height in dock diving, or simply a CGC, does a dog feel the seriousness of it? Does the dog know he has to do his/her best this time? Or does the dog think it's simply another training day?
