That is a good point and I will keep that in mind....I don't do serious tugging (its not like I lift him and swing him around) just a little playing...but during this he does his chewing. I don't want him to get in the habit of chewing. I'm also trying to get him to tug to help with training. If he has deep desire for tugging, I can use that to help with training, rather than constantly giving him treats.
