Thank you for taking him in. He'll need patience and a lot of rules. They're a breed that craves structure. You can start working with him at home, teaching him to sit and how to look at you - say look at me and wave a treat infront of your eyes.
I wouldn't take him out walking until you have a trainer. Ask around for training facilities, pull someone over if you have to when you see a person walking a well mannered dog.
