Default Load Bearing Harness? +collar

I've been looking around at getting a harness for my dog and this one caught my eye:

Matching collar:

This seems like quality stuff. The harness caught my eye because I want to begin teaching my dog how to do certain tasks and hopefully get him into some sports as well. I'm not familiar with the organized dog events in my area, so I want to begin with something that I can do on my own or with my family.

I began teaching my dog how to track throughout my yard. This is about a 2 acre area. I would like to take him to larger places and I though that the linked harness might be helpful. Every time I go out with him I have a backpack on that has 105 feet of connected leashes, several toys, treats, poop bags, about a half gallon of water, water bowl, towel, a few locks so I can lock myself and my dog into a local baseball diamond, and a few other knick knacks (night time collar lights, etc). I though it might be helpful to make the dog carry a few things. Would the extra weight help him burn a bit more energy?

Please, if you have any input or recommendations, I'd love to hear them all. My dog is a 2 and a half year old male GSD with seemingly limitless energy and he seems to have a real talent at tracking. I can't wait to actually get into it for real.
