Years ago I took my now RIP male through a basic agility class at a local kennel club. Loved the instructor, my boy was doing great. Except for another handler.
This woman was an obedience instructor at the same club. Had American water spaniels. Nice dogs. But the lady REFUSED to not constantly keep her dog engaged. She had a Gappay ball that she constantly swung around, teased her dog, through get legs, always constantly engaging in a very very busy way with her dog.
This was a beginner agility class, and I had a high drive working SAR GSD. 90% of the time my boy ignored it. But seriously, when waiting our turn she would stand there for 5 minutes teasing and tossing thus toy, squealing in a high voice.
Eventually my dog decided to jump off the plank and try for the toy that had teased him for 5 classes. He called off fine and I confronted her about it. Her response was " you dog should ignore it" I nearly punched her. So rude. This was a beginner class. I had control of my dog despite her lack of with her dog.
I never went back after that class. Just did not need the stress of constantly having to redirect my dog, who otherwise was doing great. Had this been an advanced class, it would have been different. I would expect more of my dog. But she was totally disrespectful of other dogs. And being a trainer herself I expect more.
