Thanks for all this! and noted about no water after 7 PM, even though he'll scratch his bowl and look at us like we've forgotten something, :-)
He just had a big blood test done and checked, everything looks great, but he's always had this habit here and there of wanting to go out for a minute in the middle of the night, and sometimes he'll just stand there for 30 secs looking around until I coax him to pee.
As far as from bedroom to garage, I agree that it's not the best idea. I'm thinking living-room again, although I do remember when we did it, it took a good week for him to get used to it. But once used to it, it was fine.
As far as crating, we still have his crate from when he was a puppy, but that seems tough to me, even though it's a large one. He likes to sprawl himself when he sleeps so the poor guy would be all crunched up!
I'm going to discuss the living-room idea with my hb. I guess if that's where Malik winds up, we'll gate the corridor and keep him at bay from the door.
