Same here with exception that I do not get home to give them a mid day break. We also crate at night still because Ozzy is restless and paces around the room waking us up every 2 hours.
Most dogs can tolerate this its just a matter of making sure the time they spend out of the crate is quality time. I personally try to make sure they are exercised a minimum of 30 mins off leash every day with training whenever the opportunity presents itself. I make sure to reserve 3-4 days a week where I can dedicate an hour in one stretch we go for a hike and do a full 1 hour of obedience training. And of course house time with the family when neither of the above things are happening.
The biggest realization I had... my dogs sleep during the day anyway. Even when I bring them to work they just sleep. And that's what they do in their crate when no one is home.
