Opinions on dog that has bitten
Just wanted to get opinions on a dog that has a bite history.
The dog is not mine and I have never met the dog before. I'm going on what the owner told me.
They have a 10/11 month old WL, male neutered shepherd. Admittedly they knew nothing about shepherds when they got him as a pup. They currently have him enrolled in an obedience class and say that his obedience is excellent, and their trainer says his bite problems are because of too high of prey drive.
His first bite was when he was 4 months old, the owner was riding a quad, which the dog chases, he jumped up and bite her on the rear while she was riding.
The second bite was when he was 7 months old, teenage son was playing fetch with a ball and dog jumped up and bite him on chest. They had him neutered after that, vet told them it would calm him down, it hasn't.
The third incident was this past Saturday, their 12 yr. old daughter came home from school, she's in charge of letting out dogs after school, parents are at work. She let him out, he did his business the came running back to her and jumped up with his feet on her, she swung her book bag at him, he backed away the jumped again and grabbed her jacket by the arm, did not get skin, but would not let go, the son had to pull him off.
He also has a big problem with lawn mowers, whipper snippers, vacuums etc, will chase them and attack them.
I was just wondering others opinions, they considered putting him down last Saturday, but are now possibly looking to rehome with somebody that has experience and knows shepherds, otherwise they will have him PTS.
What do others think of this, would you put him to sleep or would you give this dog a chance with a capable handler.
