I have been getting complaints of Benjamin smelling AWFUL, which is pretty odd being as I brush him daily and I bath him weekly (because he DOES smell terrible). I have been cleaning his cage and himself constantly, including clipping of the nails and cotton swabbing his ears and baths with a brushing before and after.
After living in the household stink for awhile and actually looking into it, I realized his odd behavior might be related.
He has been biting and scratching himself A LOT. He has some little red scratches in his ears which aren't serious, but they are there. His breath smells wretched, and his breathing is constantly labored (he is sleeping in his crate, but still breathing hard as if he'd just heavily exercised or extremely stressed). I'm not sure if all of this is connected to his feeding (as I've been told it has by non-experts). I'm use to being around dogs that laze around and scratch themselves and smell horrible, but I'm starting to think this all might be connected.
Is there any recommendations before I make a vet appointment? I have read online that others' dogs have had anal infections, ear infections, bacteria or yeast, but especially skin diseases or allergies from the type of food with these same symptoms.
Any way of telling?
