My girl Juno had been walking happily around my neighborhood for the past week or two since she finished up her puppy shots, but as of two days ago, she gets to the corner and stops short like she's spooked about something. She sits, she pulls, she whines... Anything to go back toward home. I've tried different routes, but she pretty much does not want to walk off our street.. In any direction. She did not encounter and unpleasant situations during any of our walks that were obvious.. Lots of neighbors. Other dogs. All happy meetings. I'm not sure how to get her to continue along. I've tried treats to entice her, lots of praise for where she does walk... But it definitely is a backwards step. Should I give her time and let it go for a few days or should I keep trying to entice her to walk with me? I don't really want to let her keep dictating the walk.. I had hopes of jogging with her when she is older.. I love walking and look forward to walking with my girl.. Now she doesn't want to?
Just for background, I've been teaching her some things myself, sit, lay down, come, stay. We were working on heel before this road block. Our formal puppy training classes start in November. Any suggestions until then?
