Ranger loves hugs is that typical GSD behavior?
I have had border collies and Australian shepherds and they generally do not like hugging. Sometimes they would come to us for affection, but none of them seemed to appreciate a full on hug. (The one exception is our current Aussie who loves pokey proddy huggy toddlers, but doesn't like that behavior in kids over about 5.) When we got Ranger we expected the same behavior since he is also a herding dog, but Ranger seems to love hugs. If anyone hugs him he leans right into the hug and noses the hugger for more when they finish. We assumed that it was because we have had Ranger since he was 7 weeks old and he has learned to love hugs but I don't know whether this is true. Are GSD's just more affectionate than other herding dogs or is Ranger a little unusual?
