So I smoked for 31 yrs. Always a pack a day, but somewhere around the middle of that 31 yrs I smoked about 3 packs a day for about 7 yrs.
I've never really seriously tried to quit, a few failed tries. I watched friends and co workers try to quit with no great success, they used the patch, the pills you can buy now etc., and always they seem to have problems giving it up for good.
Anyway, I was not thinking of quitting, hadn't crossed my mind. On June 15th I finished my pack of smokes and a short time later hopped in the car to go buy another pack, I was half way to the store and for some strange reason said to my self "F" It I don't need to smoke anymore, turned around and went back home. I haven't smoked since.
I don't know how in the heck I have just stopped like that after 31 yrs. I do not crave them, do not think about them, it does not bother me to be standing next to someone when they are smoking, its really bizarre.
So its been 4 months now and do I ever feel a lot better than when I smoked.
Has any other long time smoker just quit like that without planning it, its something I never in a million years thought I would do.
