We took our pup to the beach last weekend for the first time. He's 16 weeks old and neutered, stitches out. So we thought, perfect time to have some fun.
We took him to the beach in the past. But just walking on trails and on leash. He interacts with other off leash dogs just fine. Usually 1,2,3 let's go! And he'll follow, no fuss.
Then we took him to walk on sand. He doesn't seem to be bothered either.
Last week we took him all the way to the water/waves and he just pulled and pulled away. We tried lure with treats and no success there. We were in the water ourselves and we just sat him down with water only to his paws and we sat with him. He was tense. We finished off with a walk on the trial with play time with other dogs.
I should also mention it's 86 F (30 degree sunny in Australia)
So am I doing it right? How were pups introduced to water? We also sat down and watched other dogs play in water. He just watched, doesn't seem to want to join.
We don't have a pool in the backyard so I can't do it in a 'controlled' way in my own place. But the waves are gentle, lots of dogs and dog owners. Perfect heaven for dogs!
How do I introduce beach/water play? I wanted him to have fun and may be enjoy the cool water this summer!
