So Zelda has been struggling with Diarrhea for a while (months), and so about a month ago I got her EPI test, and results came back, and one of the levels was low, but not super low. Enough for the explanation of diarrhea, However pretty much since that test she has had normal stools! (so apparently the levels when up! Yay!) Right before the test it went form diarrhea to soft sometimes normal. This is just awesome.. for both of us of course! And not to mention, i can give her a variety of treats instead of just beef liver and boiled chicken.
A recent thing that i have posted about is her being itchy, and it seems to be getting worse- like i said before to the point where she is chewing her fur off! Poor kiddo! So i been giving her Bendryl, not sure if its helping. And am looking into Hydroxyzine, just for now until i have her on a good diet. I also recently changed her food AGAIN, from TOTW to Royal Canin hypoallergenic, because i got it for free, and have seen it work well on a dog at the shelter who was almost completely hair loss and scaley itchy skin. However, i did some more research and i guess there is a test called nutriscan, (NutriScan vs. Skin Patch or Skin Prick Testing
) which is something i would interested in, as Zelda does not care for this food, the only way for me to get her to eat it as of now is to add freeze dried beef liver power and i cant keep that up or it will ruin the diet change. I could buy the wet Royal canin hypoallergenic i dont know if i have the type of money for that, since usually you wait 3 months to see if it is really working for them. So i would LOVE to do the nutriscan test, because than i know what i need to feed her and not, and that it will work, instead of putting this money into not sure if the food is going to work anyways (A bag of this food is 70-90 normally!).
The other medical thing is, I've been wanting to do x-rays and believe i will have enough money by late November to do x-ray for either HD or pano, my Vet did not say anything about being to combine the two when i talked to him the other day. Not sure how that works anyways. I know how the HD works as i got an estimate on the cost for it. I would love to know if Zelda has moderate-severe HD or if its pano that makes her not be able to run without limping and have to lay down after running for 5 minutes, also on a long hike why she has to lay down.. Perhaps its both, i am hoping for pano though! I just want to know what im dealing with here. For weeks now, i havent been letting her run, because of what happens. I keep almost having money saved up, and than something will come up for instance the brakes on my car which cost me 360 to fix, etc.
And on top of that, I was hoping to buy her a muzzle she can pant through, because of her fear aggression, i want to have a good muzzle for her. Especially for at the vets. I have found one in which i think is going to be perfect, however its about $80-90.
The last thing is an e-collar. I have been looking into Lou Castle's training style with e-collar, and have been always in the wrong with that topic in my opinion, because i use to believe it was a horrible thing to use, that it really hurts your dog and that its not humane. And i use to think i would never use that on a child, however i would also not ever put a collar on my child and attach a leash and take it for a walk that way, or throw a ball and expect the child to run after it and bring it back in its mouth for a game of fetch, or for the child to go in a crate while i am working. So i guess i did a little soul searching while i was at it! After doing research i think its just about the right tool for me to use with Zelda with her cat drive. Because the other things my trainer told me to use and other helpful people form here told me to try, all failed, and this might too. But it is another tool I am willing to try as long as i know what i am doing i have no fear it will hurt her or make her worse than she already is and act more aggressively. Zelda is my baby-girl and i wont be using anything on her that i wont try on myself first. And that is just my opinion on the e-collar, and i respect other people's opinions as they are entitled to theirs. The cat thing in the house is pretty bad, it defiantly has made the whole family very upset with me. And i feel really bad. So this is an important thing as well.
So basically i am trying to figure out what are my priorities here.
1.) Nutriscan Test for her food allergies
(unsure of cost!)
2.) X-ray for HD
(I was estimated $250-500+OFA $30)
3.) X-ray for Pano
(Unsure, probably around $250)
4.) Good, comfortable, quality and safe muzzle for vet and training
5.) E-collar for training, specifically for the prey drive for cats-to keep the family sane and the cats safe, as I have used up other options and believe in a humane way to use the E-collar
(I want a safe and reliable one, that isnt going to die on me after weeks, etc. would love to get the dogtra1900 i think its about $200)
Thanks guys, and sorry its long!
