Emerging issues - possesiveness?
Tanner turned three in February, and I've noticed an increase in a few of his behaviors. I would appreciate your help in identifying the behavior, and also any suggestions you have for modification.
1. If my husband hugs me or picks me up Tanner begins to cry, bark, circle, and lightly nip. It is worse if I laugh or squeal, but it even happened one night when I fell asleep on the couch and dh carried me to bed.
2. He has begun to guard objects and food around our other, older dog, growling at her, giving her eye, etc., even if she is just passing by.
3. He has always had very good obedience, but lately he has had "selective hearing." I've been stepping up the obedience, but it's weird for him to not listen.
4. If anyone has any suggestions on how to teach the "quiet" command I'd be super grateful. When someone comes to the door, I send both dogs to their pillows across the room, but Tanner continues to bark, and bark, and bark...
Thank you so much for your help!
