Vet commented on the declining health of GSDs recently
When I brought my dog in to be PTS he was almost 13. The vet at the clinic said it was unusual and that she usually sees them live to an average of 9 years. Then the guy from the pet cremation place came in and he just replied, "13, that was great. I mostly see them live from 7-9 years". I was shocked. My regular vet was off yesterday and could not be here for the euthanization but said the vet I went to was excellent. We talked for quite a while about GSDs and she said that she is really shaken and in shock over the increased incidence of DM, hip dysplasia and many other illnesses in GSDs much younger than usual. SHe has one client with 7 GSDs , ALL with DM! I replied that I think it is greed on the part of some unscrupulous dog breeders who do not care about the dogs but money. The poor dogs have to suffer so much it breaks my heart and makes me enraged at these people. Has anyone else heard similar things?
