K-9 Boot Camp, day 1. Yes, I am a stoked dad.
Just dropped Ranger off with the police K-9 handler/trainer for 7 days. I'm not sure what the overall assessment will be yet, but within 5 minutes I witnessed my already obedient dog make a mini transformation. I have always been the one "handling" him when he is training, so I never get to see what it actually looks like. Once he submitted, it was the coolest thing (at least for me) to watch. He actually looked like a working dog. Within 10 minutes he was doing a long distance sit/stay for someone other than me. After I left he was doing off leash training during a walk, in a new environment, with all the tantalizing sights, sounds and smells that would drive most other breeds out of their heads. Yet, the GSD has such focus that he ignores all the new and accomplishes the task he is asked to do. This breed, and my dog in particular never ceases to amaze me. If I get any pics of the initial bite training in a few days I will share them here. I'll stop gushing now.
